- The Payroll Lead is strategically and operationally responsible for ensuring the payroll process is executed with precision, complying with current Colombian labor and tax regulations. This role acts as the primary bridge between local operations and both local and global management, ensuring that reporting and communication flow seamlessly in English.
- Core Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Management: Supervise and validate biweekly payroll processing, including social security (PILA), statutory benefits ( prestaciones sociales ), and payroll taxes ( parafiscales ).
Legal & Tax Compliance: Ensure the correct application of Withholding Tax (Procedure 1 and 2), as well as compliance with UGPP regulations and DIAN requirements (Electronic Payroll).
Audit & Control: Lead internal and external audits, ensuring processes meet SOX standards or international corporate policies.
Process Optimization: Configure and enhance payroll software (ERP) to automate updates ( novedades ) and reduce manual errors.
Technical Requirements (Hard Skills)
Education Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Industrial Engineering. (Specialization in Labor Law is a plus).
Experience Minimum 5 to 7 years in payroll departments, with at least 2 years in leadership positions.
Local Legislation Deep knowledge of the Substantive Labor Code, Law 100, and recent tax reforms.
English B2 level or higher. Ability to lead technical meetings and draft complex executive reports.
Tools Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERPs such as SAP, Workday, or local systems (Novasoft/Siesa, etc.)
Soft Skills
Attention to Detail: Ability to detect a one-peso discrepancy in payroll settlements involving thousands of employees.
Assertive Communication: Skill in explaining the complexities of Colombian law (such as the prima de servicios or cesantías ) to managers who are unfamiliar with the local context.
Team Leadership: Capacity to mentor analysts and manage peak workloads under pressure.
Ethics & Integrity: High level of discretion in handling strictly confidential information.
